Stirling Women's Shed

The Joy of Wood is proud to have been involved in the Stirling Women's Shed running workshops since its beginnings in February 2022. The Shed was offically opened by the Mayor on International Women's Day in March 2022.

Since July 2023, The Joy of Wood has worked in partnership with The City of Stirling to operate and grow the Stirling Women’s Shed in Scarborough.

In this partnership, The Joy of Wood runs a range of workshops, open sessions, and private tuition sessions for women ages 16 and over, although girls from age 8 are welcome to join in workshops with a parent or grandparent.

While there is some small machinery and power tools available, the focus of the Stirling Women’s Shed is to learn about and use traditional woodworking hand skills and techniques. We feel it is empowering to learn to use our hands to create beautiful objects and furniture.

As 2025 starts, we are very excited about the possibilities ahead. After the Christmas/New Year break, The Shed re-opens on Saturday 11 January 2025, for the first public workshop from 9am -12noon, then the first Open Session for 2025 from 1pm-4pm on that Saturday 11 January 2025. Then away we go again for another exciting year of creativity, connection, empowerment, and sharing in the joy of woodworking.

Who is the Stirling Women's Shed for?

Women of all ages (anyone who identifies as a woman is welcome, and the minimum age for membership is 16 years old) - you do not need to live in the City of Stirling to attend the Stirling Women's Shed.
